Episode 32: The Atom's Homecoming Crisis!

Welcome back true believers....

I know.... I had my third anniversary episode and then I disappear for a couple of months.  Sorry about that.  I'm hoping I've got this issue sorted out and I can get back to a regular release.

But enough with that...  I now bring you Episode 32: The Atom's Homecoming Crisis!

First up on we look at Geekin' With Head, I take a look at DC and their various reboots.  They started it with The Crisis on Infinite Earths.  Then they had Zero Hour as the Crisis didn't fix their problems (due to issues I talk about this episode).  Then more recently they had Flashpoint which rebooted in to the New 52.  And most recently they had Rebirth.  Why so many?  What happened?

This episode I talk about that and also what I would do if I was placed in charge of DC Comics with Head's DC Rebirth.

Then we have "What's In Head's Longbox?", where we continue our Atom coverage with his next appearance... The Crisis on Infinite Earths.
The Atom appears in issues 5,8,9 and 10 (According to Mike's Amazing World of Comics).

Not one of the covers of the comics, but a really cool poster for Crisis.  Use to have this on my wall at work at one point.

Writer: Marv Wolfman
Penciller: George Perez
Inker: Jerry Ordway
Letterer: John Costanza
Colorist: Anthony Tollin (Carl Gafford issue 10)

Reprinted In:
Crisis on Infinite Earths HC (1999)
Crisis on Infinite Earths TPB (2001)
Crisis on Infinite Earths:The Absolute Edition HC (2006)

I only briefly touch on the actual story of The Crisis.  During this episode I mention a couple of other places to learn more about The Crisis on Infinite Earths:

Interdisciplinary Comics Studies

Chris and Reggie’s Cosmic Treadmill

And Michael Bailey's and Scott Gardner's Tales of the Justice Society.  As I say Michael and Scott only are up to issue 4 at this point, as they've had to taken a hiatus, but I'm hoping they return soon as I'm enjoying it.

Then I go to At The Movies With Head.  This month I give an overview and my thoughts the newest Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Listen in and see if I liked it or not....

I close out the show with: "Where’s Head Going?"

This episode, I look at the podcast: Hollywood Babble On hosted by Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith.

And once again, this month I don't play a final song.  Still debating on whether I want to do that at this point.

But if you're in a band and would like your song played on the show, feel free to get in touch with me (music@HeadSpeaks.com)

Synopsis:
We start off where last issue ended with Taren and The Atom facing off an army of rats.  Suddenly gas starts entering the room, knocking the two men out.

Deraegis tells the king how the two men will make fine gladiators.   Ray is locked up and thinks how he picked up some of the language on the ride in and after a few days he’ll have it down.  After weeks locked up, he’s finally given a new costume and sent out to fight.  His opponent is a blinded Taren.  When the crowd sees what happened, they begin turning on the king for his cruelty.

Pohrager, one of the trainers, helps Taren and Ray escape as the crowd rushes the stage.  He takes them to a frog that is awaiting them, along with Laethwen.   As the guards rush him, The Atom tries to hold the guards back so Taren and the Princess can escape, but Pohrager, says that he’s not saving Taren, but The Atom.

The guards take Pohrager to the king whom he tells that the people have turned against him when they saw he blinded a prisoner for sport.  The king is confused by his accusations.

Back in the forest, Ray thinks back to how he got here and the events of issue 1.  When they stop, Ray tells Laethwen his story and she relates theirs to him.

They are from another planet.  Morlaidh was established to be a penal colony for political undesirables.  Without support from home, their technology failed and they became more barbaric.   They started splitting in to warring tribes.  Her father wishes to unit them , while Deraegis thinks it can only be done via conquest.  Laethwen says that her dad’s adviser has turn the king in to a cruel man obsessed with his dreams.

While talking Taren yells for help as he’s confronted by a lizard.  Atom throws his sword in to the lizard’s mouth to scare it off, and then the creature is fell by a barrage of poisoned arrows by Taren’s band. Back in Morlaidh, the king tells his adviser he can deal with Pohrager as he sees fit.
Taren introduces The Atom to his group and he is welcomed in to the tribe.

Back in Morlaidh, we find Pohrager being hung and thirsty, driving the city even further against the king.    Deraegis takes the prisoner some water and tells him that Caellich’s cruelty has not gone unnoticed and he’ll soon be freed.  He says that there is talk of rebellion, which townsfolk over hear which fans the flames of revolt even more.

Back in the woods, Laethwen tells The Atom how even away from their home planet, class prejudices still rule and it took her awhile to overcome that to admit her feelings for Taren.  Taren tells the pair that he was betrayed by one of his own.  Now that he’s blind, Atom will have to lead his men.  He makes a comment how the forest is dangerous for the weak, careless, and disabled.
As Atom leave Laethwen to try and talk sense to a despondent Taren, he’s cold cocked by one of Taren’s men, Voss, who believes The Atom is a spy working for the king.  The fight a little as Voss is knocked next to his poison arrows, of which he grabs and threatens Ray with.

Cut to the Loring/Palmer house where Jean calls up Paul to have someone to talk to.  Being a wonderful human being, he offers to come over to comfort Jean.
To Be Cont.

Be sure to take a listen and let us know what you think.

Then on "Where is Head Going?", I talk briefly about Saturday Morning Fever from the Fire and Water Network.

Finally, our final song is "Just A Friend " by Biz Markie

Before I start, a small announcement.  Since I'm usually a day or two late getting my podcasts out, I'm going to try something. I'm going to start releasing my podcasts on each Thursday of the week instead of Tuesday.  Not a big change, but it is what it is.

Now on to this episode.....

Then on Geeking With Head, I continue to talk about and playing more cartoon intros from my youth (the 60's - 80's).

This is the third part of a multi part episode (not sure how many episodes yet...).

This episode I talk about the following shows (each link goes to the Wiki page talking about the show):

Episode 20: Jerry Lee's Musical Interlude

            Greetings constant listeners.

Welcome back to Head Speaks and to Episode 20: Jerry Lee's Musical Interlude

First up on A Little Head...  As you'll notice and I talk about, I have done away with my "porno" version of my intro.  Over the last few months, I've been doing a lot of thinking and while I still believe in speaking my mind, I think I want to keep this podcast more Family Friendly.  So while there will be the occasional episode with more adult content, by and large, most episodes will be more Safe For Work and lil ears.

But back to A Little Head, this episode I dedicate and talk briefly (about 5 minutes) about my brother, Jerry Lee Todd II.  He was born Feb 26, 1973 and died Dec 12, 1984.  Again, I've gone in length on other episodes about his death, so I just briefly mention him this episode.  I'll probably talk more about him in future episodes....

But I want to keep this episode a little lighter, as on Geeking With Head, I decided to spend about 40 minutes or so talking about and playing some cartoon intros from my youth (the 70's and 80's).

This is the first part of a multi part episode (not sure how many episodes yet...).

This episode I talk about the following shows (each link goes to the Wiki page talking about the show):
            1) Schoolhouse Rock
            2) The Littles
            3) Laff-A-Lympics
            4) Visionaries
            5) MASK
            6) Silverhawks
            7) Thundercats

Don't worry, True Believers, there will be more shows to come.  Due to family issues and time, this is but the first.

            MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM HEAD SPEAKS!

I want to wish all of my listeners, a very, Merry Christmas.

In honor of the holiday, I present a special episode of Head Speaks... My first annual (hopefully) Christmas special:  Holy Shit, It's Christmas!

Warning, not all of the songs are meant for the ears of the younger listeners.  So I guess this is your Parental Advisory.

A little background (that I mention on the show).  Many years ago, I worked an Internet Provider doing technical support (we supported about 50 companies at one time).  In 2002, for Christmas, I decided to put together a Christmas CD.  So I searched the internet (we'll leave out the details of how at this point) and found a bunch of funny and/or offensive Christmas songs.  I took about 20 of them (or so), threw them on a CD and gave them out to friends at work.  A gal I worked with (who one day down the road  I'd romance and end up marrying) created some album art for me (I think that was the year it had me flipping the camera off, with a Santa hat, sitting in front of a fire).  I put the cd in a plastic case with the covering and handed them out to my friends from work (that would appreciate it).

Then 2 years later, I repeated the process.  Again, Michelle created the album art for me and I handed out CDs to people.
Everyone seemed to love it and kept requesting more....

Well, in 2005 me and the before mentioned Michelle got married and I just didn't have time to do any more cds after that...

But now that I have my own podcast, I figured I'd bring the tradition back and release the songs via my podcast.

Please keep in mind that I do not own any copyrights on any of the songs nor do I make any money on this podcast.  I am just presenting these to my listeners so they can possibly hear some good and humorous songs.

When possible I mentioned the name of the artists (for the few I knew).

Anyways... hope you enjoy the songs.  Drop me a line and let me know.

            Until next month, Merry Christmas!

Episode 18: Star Wars Episode 2: The Head Awakens!

            Greetings constant listeners.

Welcome back to Head Speaks and to Episode 18: Star Wars Episode 2: The Head Awakens!

First off, let me apologize... Some how I seemed to have forgotten to update the blog when I released Decembers episode.  So here it is.

First up on A Little Head, I talk about my brother, Jerry Lee Todd II.  He died on Dec 12, 1984.  This episode I talk about the night of our house fire and the tragic two weeks that followed.

If you wish to skip this section of Head Speaks, go ahead and skip the first thirty minutes and you can jump to the STAR WARS section. This month is a bit shorter (once you get past me reliving my past).  Join me as I talk briefly about the Star Wars Marathon I'll be going to next week and then as I talk about the Star Wars novel The Legacy of The Force.

Plus we have Where's Head going (yes, it is Star Wars related) and Head's Mailbox.  Join us.

Finally, our final song returns with 'A Fanboy Christmas'.  I think it's by the Great Luke Ski.

Special Note: On Christmas day, I will be releasing a special Christmas episode of Head Speaks.  Come back and check us out.

Merry Christmas to all my listeners and a Happy New Year.

Episode 11: The Conway Corner Podcast Crossover Pt 1.

Greetings constant listeners.  Welcome back to Head Speaks and to my 11th Episode: The Conway Corner Podcast Crossover Pt 1.

This is a very special episode where we celebrate one of the greatest comic creators on the earth... Gerry Conway.  The genius who gave us classics as The Death of Gwen Stacey and created wonderful characters such as Killer Croc, The Punisher, Killer Frost, and most importantly... FIRESTORM!!!!!!

Before I go any further, I want to give special thanks to Michael Bradley of the Superman and Batman podcast for getting this whole thing under way and to Shag Mathews over at Firestorm Fan and The Fire and Water podcast, for helping keep us under control and organized.  Great work guys.... You're doing the work of the gods (or something).

Mr. Conway has recently written a post on his Tumblr page regarding DC and their Creator Equity...  You can check out Mr. Conway's Tumbr at:
            http://gerryconway.tumblr.com/

A few weeks ago, he wrote a story called: Who created Caitlin Snow on #TheFlash? According to @DCComics, nobody.

To hear more about this, check out this episode and read Mr. Conway's Tumblr.

Also this episode I do a Character Profile of Mr. Conway.

As an aside, I recommend checking out The Fire and Water Podcast episode 125, where Shag and Rob have an excellent interview with Mr. Conway regarding Creator Equity and the current issue with DC Comics (and as I say in the episode, when we say DC Comics, we mean DC Entertainment, the suits and big wigs, not DC Comics editorial (such as Didio, Johns, and Lee)).

But back to me and Head Speaks....

After that in What's In Head's Long Box, I review Firestorm The Nuclear Man, issues 1 and 2 (both written by Gerry Conway and penciled by Al Milgrom).

Finally in Where's Head Going?, I talk more about the Conway Corner Podcast Crossover (#ConwayXover).

Here is Gerry's original article (Check it out):

The other podcasts and blogs participating are (and I recommend them all):
