New Batman in Man of Steel 2????

My next blog post was going be Head's Geek Credentials, where I talk about comics and my comic origins.  But I just ran across some news on the intertubes, so that post will have to be postponed....

Apparently someone in DC/Warner Brothers has lost their fuckin' minds.  Several sites are reporting that the new Batman (which will first appear in Man of Steel 2, coming in July 2015) is going to be Ben Affleck.

Now don't get me wrong.  I'm not an Affleck hater.  I think he's a fine actor in the right vehicle.  I enjoyed him in all of Kevin Smith's films (Dogma, Chasing Amy, etc).  Hell I even liked him in 'Forces of Nature".  Yes, I'll admit I watched it and thought it was a decent movie.  Hey... don't you dare fuckin' judge me!  Don't you dare!

But Daredevil... Don't get me wrong.  I enjoyed Daredevil for the most part.  Most people that refer to the movie say it was a horrible movie or they hated it or other such nonsense.  But I liked it (again, for the most part).  But there are two things I didn't care much for.  1) the Matt Murdock (blind lawyer)/ Elecktra playground fight (no, seriously... a BLIND attorney fighting that well in the playground in the middle of the farkin' day???) and 2) Affleck as Daredevil.  I think the movie would have been a lot of better if there was a different actor playing Daredevil.  I guess whoever is in charge of Batman over at DC/WB didn't watch the Daredevil movie.  Or read any of the criticisms of the movie.

Rumors where circulating that Joe Manganiello (from True Blood) and Ryan Gosling were in the running for Batman.  My personal opinion would be that either of these would be a decent if not great Batman.  But Ben Fuckin' Affleck?  I don't know man, I just don't know.

And I know... He was da bomb in Phantoms, yo!

Anywho....

Now after all that ranting and raving, don't get me wrong.  I will go see Man of Steel 2 (or whatever they decide to call it) in 2015 when it's released.  I'll definitely be there.  And hoping for the best.

I guess we'll have to wait until July of 2015 to see how it's going to turn out.

Feel free to leave comments below and let's discuss this.

Until next time, keep it funny. Remember.  Humor covers a multitude of sins.  8)

  1. Alright. I've finally watched Argo.

I'm changing my previous posted opinion from a "I don't fucking know" to "Ben Affleck might actually be a pretty good Batman/Bruce Wayne".

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure that there is someone out there that would be better, but I am changing my opinion to "I'm optimistic that this next Superman movie might be pretty good."

That's my new official word on Batfleck.

    What do you people think?

  2. At first, I was on the bandwagon against Affleck. I've seen Gigli. And my manhood is called into question admitting that publicly. But, I've also seen Argo and I can see why it nearly swept the Oscars. I've always been a fan of Ben's, but the raging nerd in me was totally against it. Then I had to give it some thought. A lot of the greatness in a movie isn't just the actors, but the writers, director, DoP, Etc. And Affleck has churned out some very good movies. The Town, Good Will Hunting, Argo. Every actor has their crap roles. Gigli was horrible. And I'm sorry Kevin Smith, but Jersey Girl, you should apologize for. I will give him a pass on Daredevil, well, because I liked it. Its a guilt pleasure. So, in closing, I just guess that we will have to see just how he does and how the role is written.

    1. I agree with you, but sometimes you do have to consider the actor.

And I'm sorry, maybe I need to turn in my mancard, but I actually liked Jersey Girl. Granted it wasn't an Oscar winning movie, but it's one of my guilty pleasures.

And I haven't seen Gigli. I've just been judging him from what I've seen him in (the only thing I can do). And while he was good in The Town, that wasn't Bruce Wayne/Batman.

But as I've said, after having just watched Argo, I think Ben has grown considerably as an actor and I think he'll make a good Batman.

Now, also as you said, the writer, director and others can ruin or make a movie.
Back in the late 80's/early 90's, I would have thought George Clooney or Val Kilmer would make a good Batman.

Then you have Schumacher's Batman movies (who used to be a GREAT director (ie: Lost Boys)). But I've said too much about those movies already.

      Anywho....

As we've both said, we'll have to wait until 2015 and see what comes out.
